Why Work at St. Francis

We are not a corporate chain. We are a Canadian family-owned daycare with five centres across Alberta, and the same family that started St. Francis 25 years ago still runs it today.

🏠

Family-Owned Culture

Decisions get made by people who know your name. Educators are not interchangeable; you build long relationships with the children, the families, and the team.

💰

Competitive Wages

Wages are reviewed annually and adjusted to reflect Alberta market rates, along with your experience and certification level. Specific wage grid details are shared during the interview.

📚

Professional Development

Every educator receives a minimum of 50 hours of paid professional development each year, built into the workweek. Training is not asked of staff on their own time.

🤝

Team Environment

Most of our centres have small core teams who have worked together for years, which makes for predictable shifts and steady relationships with the children you care for.

What We Look For

Working with children is meaningful work, and it requires real qualifications. Here is what we look for in every educator we hire.
🎓

ECE Certification

All Alberta-licensed daycare staff must hold ECE certification at Level 1 (Child Development Assistant), Level 2 (Child Development Worker), or Level 3 (Child Development Supervisor). New graduates and certification-in-progress applicants are welcome.
🩺

Current First Aid and CPR

All educators must hold current Standard First Aid with CPR-C, including infant-focused training for those working with children under 2 years old.
💚

Passion for Children and Patience for Parents

It is possible to learn the technical skills. The instinct to bend down to a child’s level, to listen patiently to a worried parent, to keep showing up on tough days: those traits are what we hire for.
🔍

Police Information Check

Successful applicants must provide a current Police Information Check, including the Vulnerable Sector Check, before starting. This is an Alberta licensing requirement.

Employee Benefits

What you get in return for showing up every day.
📚

Paid Professional Development

50+ hours per year, built into work hours. Topics range from literacy and language development to inclusion, behaviour support, and trauma-informed practice.
🕑

Flexible Scheduling Where Possible

We try to accommodate school schedules, family obligations, and other roles. Centres with longer hours, like Greenview, offer split-shift options for some positions.

🎉

Team Events

Quarterly team gatherings, holiday celebrations, and centre-specific traditions. The educators who have been with us longest say this is what they value most about working at St. Francis.
📈

Career Growth

Many of our directors started as Level 1 educators. We support staff working toward Level 2, Level 3, and director qualifications, and we promote internally whenever we can.
