π₯
Albertaβs Caregiver Ratio
Alberta requires one educator for every 10 children aged 4.5 to 6 years, and we meet that ratio in every kindergarten classroom.
On busier days, we often staff above the ratio so each child gets the focused attention this stage deserves.
π΄
Structured Routines and Active Supervision
Kindergartners thrive on predictable routines. Ours include clear rules, smooth transitions, and active supervision indoors and outdoors.
Pickup is limited to authorized adults listed on each childβs enrollment form, and we verify identity at every centre before a child leaves.
ποΈ
Dedicated Kindergarten Classrooms
Kindergartners learn in classrooms separate from younger children, with reading nooks, math centres, science tables, and writing stations.
Materials align with Albertaβs kindergarten learning outcomes, and surfaces are sanitized on a documented schedule.

Literacy and Numeracy Foundations
Children read, write, and count every day. Phonics, sight words, sentence building, number sense, and patterns are built into hands-on activities.
The curriculum aligns with Alberta Educationβs kindergarten learning outcomes, ensuring a smooth transition into Grade 1.
Science, Art, and Social Skills
Each week includes hands-on science exploration, art projects, music, and group activities that build cooperation and turn-taking.
We provide morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack at no extra cost, with menus that meet Canadaβs Food Guide.
How We Support Development
π¬
Daily Communication with Parents
You will hear from us each day about how your child engaged, what they tried, and what they learned.
Most centres use written daily reports, in-person handoffs at pickup, and photo updates on request.
π
Portfolio and Progress Tracking
Educators document each childβs progress with notes, photos, and work samples kept in an individual portfolio.
We meet with parents formally each quarter to review milestones and discuss the upcoming transition to Grade 1.
πͺ
Open-Door Policy
Parents are welcome to drop in any time during operating hours. If you want to visit on a lunch break or call to check in, just ask.
There is no need for an appointment, and no question is too small.

Qualifications and Training
Every kindergarten educator holds post-secondary credentials in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and is current in CPR and Standard First Aid.
Many have additional training in early literacy or inclusive education, and several have been with St. Francis for over fifteen years.
Ongoing Professional Development
Our staff complete a minimum of 50 hours of paid professional development each year, covering topics like literacy strategies, inclusion, and the Flight curriculum framework.
Training is built into the work week, not asked of staff outside their regular hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does this differ from public-school kindergarten?
Should we choose your kindergarten or public-school kindergarten?
Both are valid choices. Many families enroll with us full-day; others combine public-school kindergarten with our Out-of-School Care, though we do not provide transportation between schools.
My child is a young 4-year-old. Can they start kindergarten with you?
