A Safe, Confident Start

Kindergarten is the bridge from preschool curiosity to the routines of school life. Our program is built to make that transition feel exciting, not overwhelming.

πŸ‘₯

Alberta’s Caregiver Ratio

Alberta requires one educator for every 10 children aged 4.5 to 6 years, and we meet that ratio in every kindergarten classroom.

On busier days, we often staff above the ratio so each child gets the focused attention this stage deserves.

😴

Structured Routines and Active Supervision

Kindergartners thrive on predictable routines. Ours include clear rules, smooth transitions, and active supervision indoors and outdoors.

Pickup is limited to authorized adults listed on each child’s enrollment form, and we verify identity at every centre before a child leaves.

πŸ›οΈ

Dedicated Kindergarten Classrooms

Kindergartners learn in classrooms separate from younger children, with reading nooks, math centres, science tables, and writing stations.

Materials align with Alberta’s kindergarten learning outcomes, and surfaces are sanitized on a documented schedule.

Literacy and Numeracy Foundations

Children read, write, and count every day. Phonics, sight words, sentence building, number sense, and patterns are built into hands-on activities.

The curriculum aligns with Alberta Education’s kindergarten learning outcomes, ensuring a smooth transition into Grade 1.

Science, Art, and Social Skills

Each week includes hands-on science exploration, art projects, music, and group activities that build cooperation and turn-taking.

We provide morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack at no extra cost, with menus that meet Canada’s Food Guide.

How We Support Development

The kindergarten year is when school readiness becomes school confidence. We track each child’s progress carefully and share our observations with parents.

πŸ’¬

Daily Communication with Parents

You will hear from us each day about how your child engaged, what they tried, and what they learned.

Most centres use written daily reports, in-person handoffs at pickup, and photo updates on request.

πŸ“‹

Portfolio and Progress Tracking

Educators document each child’s progress with notes, photos, and work samples kept in an individual portfolio.

We meet with parents formally each quarter to review milestones and discuss the upcoming transition to Grade 1.

πŸšͺ

Open-Door Policy

Parents are welcome to drop in any time during operating hours. If you want to visit on a lunch break or call to check in, just ask.

There is no need for an appointment, and no question is too small.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this differ from public-school kindergarten?
Our program is licensed under Alberta’s child care system, runs full-day, and includes wrap-around care from morning to evening. The curriculum aligns with Alberta Education’s kindergarten learning outcomes, so children transition to Grade 1 on track.

Both are valid choices. Many families enroll with us full-day; others combine public-school kindergarten with our Out-of-School Care, though we do not provide transportation between schools.

Our kindergarten program serves children 4.5 to 6 years old. We assess readiness with each family at intake and recommend the program that fits best.
Through Alberta-aligned literacy, numeracy, and self-regulation routines, plus quarterly parent conferences and individual portfolios. We share progress directly with families to help the school transition feel familiar.

Visit Our Kindergarten Program

The best way to see whether our kindergarten program is right for your family is to walk through one of our centres. Tours run year-round and take about 30 minutes.

We are a Canadian family-owned daycare, which means the same family that started St. Francis 25 years ago still oversees how every kindergarten day unfolds. Ready to enroll? Download the registration paperwork from our Parents Zone.

Have a question first? Contact us at Info@stfrancisdaycare.ca or call your nearest centre. We will get back to you within one business day.
